Medicine professor emeritus Dr. Krishnamurti Dakshinamurti on behalf of Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada gave a congratulatory message and welcomes the awardees to this ceremony, which is held to honour them for their outstanding contributions. On behalf of Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada, he salutes and honours the greatest peace lovers, Mr. David Matas, and Mr. Art DeFehr, for their achievement following Gandhi’s philosophy and knowledge to promote world peace and development of humanity.

Mr. David Matas said that Mahatma Gandhi was not only a leader of India but also a peace activist who awakened the whole world. He further emphasised that as a preeminent leader of Indian nationalism in British-ruled India, Mahatma Gandhi inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

Mr. Art DeFehr shared that his interest in international affairs has resulted in a split career where most of his time has been devoted to business and the balance to various international and other involvements. He further elaborated that his passion for serving others keeps him working for sustainable development.

The Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada also presented the Community Service Recognition Awards to various leaders of the Manitoba community on this occasion were Hon. Steve Ashton, Mr. Bidhu Jha, Mr. Hasmukh Pandya, Q.C; Dr. Chali Dhaliwal, Dr. Mohinder Singh Dhillon, Mr. Sudhir Kumar, Ms. Marcy Markusa, Grand Chief Sheila North-Wilson and Robb Nash.
